We live in a globalized world and human migrations are a common thing nowadays. Today in our focus are actors of German descent, whom you wouldn’t probably recognize as Germans. So let's take a look at some famous actors related to Germany.

A widely popular handsome man, who has been charming women from TV screens for 10 years now. Fassbender was using superpowers in X-men; seducing women in Shame; trying the skin of AI in Prometheus; and of course playing a German-speaking lieutenant in Inglorious Basterds. Michael Fassbender is a Hollywood star, but he is originally from Germany, where he was born. His father is German and his mother is Irish. Fassbender speaks German quite fluently, though English accent still betrays him.

“She’s a beauty, she’s a grace, she’s the Miss of the United States”, that's the song that jumps to my head every time I hear Miss Congeniality. Sandra Bullock’s most popular film about an undercover CIA agent participating in a beauty pageant. We know Sandra Bullock as an Oscar-winner actress, but very few know that she is fluent in German, and that her mother was an Opera German singer. Bullock was born in the US but she spent 12 years in Germany in her youth, which gave her time to polish her German.

No doubt, DiCaprio is one of the favorite actors around the world. Films he was starring in have become classics: Titanic, Inception, The Wolf of Wall Street. And only recently he finally was honored with Oscar for his spectacular play in Revenant. His name gives an undoubtful impression that he is Italian, but it’s not. The idol of the public actually has German-born mother and half-German father. Even though DiCaprio was born in Los Angeles, he is fluent in German and keeps up with the culture of his parents’ homeland.

Dominic Monaghan

Dominic Monaghan

Who doesn’t remember cute and brave Merry from The Lords of the Rings. Monaghan is British with a very British accent, but in very deed he has German roots. He was born in Berlin into the family of Brits. The Lords of the Rings star has been living with his parents in different German cities until he was 11. Monaghan shows a good command of conversational German and can even do interviews in it.
